New Member Sunday, April 2
We will have our second membership Sunday of the year during the church service on April 2nd. If anyone is thinking of joining Second Parish, there will be another "Scoop on Second Parish" before June to explain what membership means and we will have another membership Sunday before the end of the church year. Please speak to Diane DeNapoli or Rev. Stephanie for more information.
Men's Breakfast, Saturday, April 8, 8 am
The next men's breakfast will be April 8, at 8:00 a.m. in Cushing Hall. All men of the parish are cordially invited to attend. We will continue our tradition of hearty breakfasts with some healthy foods included. RSVP to Lou Belknap, email@example.com.
Easter Sunday, April 16
Join us at 10 am for a joyous, music-filled Easter Service, followed by a special coffee hour and an Easter egg hunt for the youngsters. We look forward to seeing you!
e are delighted that you have found
us and hope that you will feel at
home on our website and ultimately at our church.
As Unitarian Universalists, we are open and welcoming to everyone, confident that knowing you will help us understand the world more fully and that worshiping and working with you will help us in our constant quest to serve others and to appreciate the mysteries of life.
Please consider visiting us to explore what Second Parish has to offer.
April 2 - In What We Trust
Our coins proclaim the motto, “In God We Trust”, but recent surveys and patterns cast doubt on how widely that applies to our culture. If we are finally able to figure out what it is that we trust, what are the implications for our future?
April 9 - Behind Joy
As we celebrate Palm Sunday, we recall the joy many felt when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem. The following Sunday we celebrate Easter, the return of Jesus after his crucifixion. What many (including our children) do not hear much about is the darkness of the events between these two Sundays. This sermon will explore the role of that darkness, that grief, in helping us encounter joy.
April 16 - Return Again
Jesus is not the only, or even the first, figure to return from the dead in world mythologies and religion. What is the compelling message of such a return? What can Easter mean in our modern world?
April 23 - Guest Minister Rev. Nick Boke
Rev. Boke's sermon, “Amidst Believers,” will reflect on situations in which many of those around him were deeply religious and how that affected his own contemplation of his own beliefs. Rev. Boke served as the minister at the 1st Universalist Parish of Chester, VT and presently works as an international education consultant in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa.
April 30 - Mr. Smith Goes to the Art Show
Drawing on the role that the painter Frank Vining Smith plays in our annual Art Show, this sermon will examine the role of change in the show and what that suggests about change in our own lives.
