April 2 -  In What We Trust

Our coins proclaim the motto, “In God We Trust”, but recent surveys and patterns cast doubt on how widely that applies to our culture. If we are finally able to figure out what it is that we trust, what are the implications for our future?

April 9 -  Behind Joy

As we celebrate Palm Sunday, we recall the joy many felt when Jesus arrived in Jerusalem. The following Sunday we celebrate Easter, the return of Jesus after his crucifixion. What many (including our children) do not hear much about is the darkness of the events between these two Sundays. This sermon will explore the role of that darkness, that grief, in helping us encounter joy.

April 16 -  Return Again

Jesus is not the only, or even the first, figure to return from the dead in world mythologies and religion. What is the compelling message of such a return? What can Easter mean in our modern world?

April 23 - Guest Minister Rev. Nick Boke

Rev. Boke's sermon, “Amidst Believers,” will reflect on situations in which many of those around him were deeply religious and how that affected his own contemplation of his own beliefs. Rev. Boke served as the minister at the 1st Universalist Parish of Chester, VT and presently works as an international education consultant in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa.

April 30 - Mr. Smith Goes to the Art Show

Drawing on the role that the painter Frank Vining Smith plays in our annual Art Show, this sermon will examine the role of change in the show and what that suggests about change in our own lives.

Rev. Stephanie Shute Kelsch u
