We meet every Sunday morning at 10:00 AM for an hour of worship together, although like many Unitarian Universalist churches in the area, we do close from the fourth Sunday in June to the first Sunday in September. Everyone is welcome and dress should be comfortable for you. During this time, our children join us for the first part of the service. They learn how to be comfortable in church and hear a story geared especially to them. After we sing them out to Sunday School, we continue with our service, including Joys and Concerns, a sermon, prayers and hymns.
Our formal service is influenced by the Western Christian tradition but is always open to and influenced by other viewpoints. Our goal in worshipping together is to seek understanding and strength, to find comfort and hope, and to motivate action in service to others. Visit our sermons page to read some of Stephanie’s recent sermons. After the hour of worship together, we gather in Cushing Hall for fellowship and food. This is where people “catch up” with each other and react to the thoughts the service has stimulated.
On Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00, the sanctuary (or the more cozy library in the winter) is also open for what we call an “Hour of Peace”. Here people are invited to read or sit quietly, listening to music of inspiration from many sources, and reflect upon what matters most to them. For a few moments during this hour, our minister will share the issue she is grappling with for the upcoming Sunday service. The “Hour of Peace” is not a formal service, but a time for reflection for any who attend.
